Monaco secured a victory (3-0) and extended their strong start to the season at the expense of Lens, who are far from the level they displayed in the previous campaign.
Caio Henrique provided two assists, both from set pieces, with well-placed corner kicks converted by two excellent finishes.
Austrian Adi Hutter’s Monaco won at the Stade Louis II and now leads the competition with three wins and one draw. Their third victory was sealed before halftime. They opened the scoring through Singo, who headed a corner kick from Caio Henrique past Brice Samba’s reach.
The second goal came just past the half-hour mark, courtesy of Russia’s Aleksandar Golovin after receiving a pass from Japan’s Takumi Minamino. The victory was rounded off around the hour mark when Maripán, with a header, once again completed a corner kick from Caio Henrique.
Frank Haise’s team couldn’t mount a comeback and is yet to secure a victory this season. They lost to Brest on the opening day and faced defeat against Paris Saint-Germain last week. Their only point came against Stade Rennes, and they have now dropped to the lower part of the table, second from the bottom.
