Monaco ended this Saturday’s matchday as the leader in Ligue 1 after defeating Reims (1-3), awaiting Brest’s performance in their match on Sunday.
Reims had hopes of taking the top spot, at least for 24 hours. They needed to beat Monaco to look down on the rest of the teams from the top of the table. However, Monaco was superior throughout most of the match and didn’t give their opponent a chance.
Monaco took the lead just before half-time through Ismail Jakons, who slotted home a low-angle shot from a Krépin Diatta cross that Yehvann Diouf couldn’t save.
Then, one minute into the second half, Folarin Balogun extended Monaco’s lead with a powerful strike from inside the area. Wissam Ben Yedder added the third with a header, joining the celebration of his team, which conceded a goal from Teddy Teuma, but it was not enough for Reims.
