Hardik Pandya joins Steve Smith and co: List of players who have captained multiple IPL teams – Sporting News

Following Mumbai Indians’ (MI) announcement that Hardik Pandya will be replacing Rohit Sharma as the new captain of the franchise, the Baroda all-rounder joined an exclusive club of players to have captained multiple Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises.
Hardik was the captain of the Gujarat Titans (GT), a new franchise which made their debut in 2022. The 30-year-old guided the Titans to two successive IPL finals and won the trophy in his very first season as captain.

In this article, The Sporting News takes a look at the players who have captained more than one IPL team.

Pandya, who has been the first-choice captain for India in the T20I format, has joined retired IPL legends such as Rahul Dravid, Adam Gilchrist, Virender Sehwag, etc. in the list of players to have captained multiple IPL sides. 
Sri Lankan GOATs Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene remain the only players to have captained three different IPL teams. Steve Smith also captained three teams. For Pune Warriors India (now defunct), Smith filled in for the-then unavailable Sourav Ganguly. 
This list will also include players who captained teams that they were not the captains of initially.
