We all know transfers are coming, but who will they be?
Bayern Munich have collected yet another win as they forced their way to a 2-1 victory over Wolfsburg. From a statistical standpoint, it’s easy to think everything’s going swimmingly for Der Rekordmeister as they managed to accumulate 2.73 expected goals to Wolfsburg’s 0.28. However useful, statistics do not paint the whole picture.
Bayern already had a thin squad heading into the season and at the time of writing both Kingsley Coman and Noussair Mazraoui are out with injuries. In addition to this, the flu has hit several members of the team, even forcing regular midfield pairing Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka out of the squad. This has led to there being very few players available for selection in recent matches and highlights the need for new signings.
Head coach Thomas Tuchel had this to say about the transfer situation, “We’re [working] on it. We’ll hopefully improve the squad in winter. It’s not going to be easy because the January window is always more difficult than the summer. But at the same time we’ll trust the quality we have.” (@iMiaSanMia)
Speaking about the positional specifics for the players needed Tuchel reasoned that, “Maybe we’ll need two [new] players, or if it’s someone that can play several positions, then maybe one would be enough if we are spared injuries. There’s also the Asian and African Cups. If Korea reach the final, Min-jae would only be back a day or two before the Champions League game [against Lazio]. But as I said it’s not about making wishes, we know it’s difficult to get players in the middle of the season. It’ll be a big task. We will need patience and optimism.” (@iMiaSanMia)
The consensus seems to be that Bayern desperately needs a defender, but who should they sign? Inter Milan’s Benjamin Pavard and Bayer Leverkusen’s Josip Stanišić are two interesting players who fit the bill perfectly (isn’t that ironic), but let us know what options you would like to see in a Bayern shirt in the comments below!
