Matthijs de Ligt hopes to stay at Bayern Munich for a long time – Bavarian Football Works

Filed under:
The Dutchman is enjoying his time in Bavaria.
Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt has dealt with a few injuries so far, but the Dutchman is working his way back into form and hopes to be a steady contributor to the squad during the second half.
While his second season in Bavaria has not quite gone to plan, De Ligt is optimistic about where the team is going, especially after enduring some shattering changes last season when Julian Nagelsmann, Oliver Kahn, and Hasan Salihamidžić were all dismissed from the club.
“Nagelsmann always wanted us to attack with a lot of pace and intensity. Tuchel places a bit more value on control, calm and patience — especially in passing. That’s the biggest difference. They’re different philosophies, but both can lead to success,” De Ligt told Sport1 (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “(Tuchel and De Ligt) have a very good relationship. He always gives me and us as a team very good and clear information along the way. We talk a lot about working on the pitch and that’s what it’s all about. I feel good.
As for why things fell apart, De Ligt felt like the condensed schedule wore down the team.
“There were several reasons, but I would say that the World Cup in particular was a problem for us. Before that we had a really strong run with a lot of wins, a lot of goals and few goals conceded”
Another change that De Ligt has experienced at Bayern Munich was the arrival newcomer Kim Min-jae, who has been a welcomed addition to the backline. De Ligt has also been impressed by the Korean.
“Min-jae comes across as a very positive guy, he’s a very friendly guy and I’m sure he’ll be a big asset to our team. He has achieved big things with Napoli – in Serie A, but also in the Champions League,” said De Ligt.
In the end, De Ligt says he is happy.
“I definitely hope to stay for a very long time. I have a very good feeling about this team and can fully identify with them and the club. I’m very happy to have made the step to FC Bayern,” the Dutchman remarked.
