Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, “Oppenheimer” is a biographical film surrounding American theoretical physicist, J Robert Oppenheimer and his hand in the Manhattan project. It was his work in the Manhattan project that credits Oppenheimer to be the father of the atomic bomb, as the project led to its development. Featuring Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer, the cast also includes Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon, Rami Malek, and Emily Blunt. The film is currently set to release globally on July 21. 
As one of the many of the star-studded ensembles we are getting to see on-screen this year, “Barbie” directed by Greta Gerwig and written alongside Noah Baumbach is the most anticipated. With Margot Robbie starring as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, this film is based on Barbie, a children’s fashion doll manufactured by Mattel. The supporting ensemble also includes Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, Michael Cera, America Ferrera, and Issa Rae. The film is also set to release on July 21. 
“The Last of Us”
One of the first releases of 2023, “The Last of Us” premiered on January 15. The series is based on the 2013 video game developed by Naughty Dog, which follows Joel and 14-year-old Ellie, played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, in a post-apocalyptic society after an infection spreads and changes the world forever. New episodes of the 9-part series will air on HBO Max Sundays at 9 p.m. 
“The Super Mario Bros. Movie”  
Based on Nintendo’s popular video game franchise, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” is an animated movie coming to theaters on April 7. The voice cast includes, Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong. With the help of Princess Peach and Road, the story will follow Mario as he attempts to save his brother, Luigi, from the fire breathing Koopa, Bowser.   
Timothee Chalamet will play a young Willy Wonka in “Wonka,” the movie based on the Roald Dahl classic “Charlie and the Chocolate factory.” This adaption will center on the early years of Willy Wonka, before meeting the Oompa Loompas and the opening of his chocolate factory. The supporting ensemble includes Keegan-Michael Key, Natasha Rothwell, Olivia Colman, and Rowan Atkinson. The film is projected to release early December. 
 “The Little Mermaid” 
The live action adaptation of the “Little Mermaid,” starring Halle Bailey as Ariel, is set to be released on May 26. The Supporting ensemble includes Jonah Hauer King as Prince Eric, Melissa Mcarthy as Ariel, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Jacob Trembly as Flounder and Awkwafina as scuttle.  
“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”
Miles Morales is returning as Spider-Man in the animated “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.” The movie will center on Miles’ journey through the Spider- Verse, where he meets a new group of spider-people along the way. Shameik Moore will again voice Miles, alongside Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya and Jake Johnson who will voice roles in the movie. The film will release on June 2.
