– Likely to be named the Hunter 450
– Will be positioned below the Himalayan 450
– Expected to be launched in early 2024
A test prototype of what looks like a road-going version of the upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 has been spotted testing yet again in Europe. This motorcycle, due for launch sometime in the first half of 2024, is expected to be christened the Royal Enfield Hunter 450.
This 450 roadster, when launched, will lock horns with the KTM 390 Duke and the BMW G 310 R. The motorcycle, internally codenamed K1F, will be positioned below the upcoming Himalayan 450 and is expected to be priced under Rs 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
Given its urban-centric positioning, the Hunter 450 is likely to feature 17-inch alloys, wrapped with road-focused CEAT tyres. Unlike the Himalayan 450, which will get USD front forks, the spy shots show the Hunter 450 test mule sporting conventional telescopic forks. The overall riding stance looks comfortable, with a wide handlebar, and slightly rear-set footpegs.
Coming to its mechanicals, the 450cc liquid-cooled motor is expected to make around 40bhp and close to 45Nm of peak torque. A six-speed gearbox could transfer power to the road, while a slip-and-assist clutch is likely to be on offer as well.
Now, there are media reports suggesting that it will be called the Scram 450, but, that’s not the case. Let us explain. Royal Enfield is working on a number of motorcycles on the 450cc liquid-cooled platform. And besides a roadster, Royal Enfield has plans to introduce a proper scrambler on the 450cc platform, complete with spoke wheels, 17/19-inch block-pattern tyres, a tall-set flat exhaust, and a raised mudguard. That scrambler is the likely candidate to get the Scram 450 moniker.
So, why will the roadster be named Hunter 450? Well, RE’s latest offering, the Hunter 350, is the brand’s most accessible motorcycle that is aimed at newer and younger riders. And, it promises agility, good weight balance, and intuitive handling. So naturally, a roadster motorcycle sporting a high-compression 450cc liquid-cooled motor, with potent underpinnings, is more likely to get the Hunter 450 moniker.
