We have tested the Harley-Davidson X440 and came away mighty impressed with its performance. So, does this make it an excellent package or is there a fly in the ointment? And does it check all the right boxes to take on the Royal Enfield Classic 350? Vikrant Singh tries to answer these questions in this video.

Although we only rode the motorcycle for a couple of hours, we did manage to test the X440’s engine performance and handling. However, since we only tested the motorcycle at the race track, we can’t really comment on its ride quality.
The engine on the Harley-Davidson X440 feels refined till about 4,000rpm, and past that, minor vibrations creep in, especially around the seat and handlebar. That said, the motor offers good low and mid-range torque, which aids in excellent tractability. The six-speed gearbox too offers precise shifts.
In terms of hardware, the X440 comes equipped with 43mm KYB upside-down forks up front and twin gas-charged coil-over springs at the back. The motorcycle is suspended by a trellis frame, while the braking department comprises disc brakes at both ends along with the safety net of dual-channel ABS.
Although we can’t talk much about the motorcycle’s ride quality, it offers excellent handling for a laid-back roadster. You can tip it into corners easily and it changes directions without much effort. Even the brakes provide good stopping power and progression.
As a recap, the Harley-Davidson X440 is available in three variants – Denim, Vivid and S. The Denim trim starts at Rs. 2.29 lakh (ex-showroom) and is available in a single colour option and with spoke wheels. The Vivid trim is available in two dual-tone colour options and alloy wheels. It is priced at Rs. 2.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-spec S variant costs Rs. 2.69 lakh (ex-showroom) and comes with machined alloys, 3D decals and connectivity features.
